So you could try an initial unmodded run (except for the SS2Tool patchup, seriously, don't skip that), then a modded run so you can fully appreciate what the modders have done for the game. System Shock 2 is a much more complex game than the first, which might sound terrifying to some people, considering how much of a nightmare the first game is to understand, but allow me to assure you, System Shock 2 is a thousand times easier to pick up and play compared to the first game. That all being said, SS2 is a relatively short game, but highly replayable. If you're interested in a more polished version of SS2, but one that's still fundamentally faithful to the vanilla game, you can try the System Shock 2 Community Patch (SCP).\ No surprise considering how small the dev team was and how quickly they put it all together.
